Raising Tiny Nomad: Inspiring a Love for Travel and Culture

So far I have described the most obvious but also the most costly things that every mom surely remembers. Let's move on to the details that generate equally large costs, but our happiness comes "in installments". As you can see, based on the previous part of this post, I try to search for things that are a bit different, so it wasn't easy with the next items on the checklist. Only the approaching due date encouraged me to make standard purchases, but even a few months before that, I started looking for wonderful tiny clothes (which I think every woman loves the most;)) and it began ;) Fortunately, the first purchase decisions were only slightly dictated by emotions, common sense prevailed. So, dresses from top world fashion designers were purchased for 3- and 6-month-old babies, and I can now say it was an excellent strategy ;). At the beginning, especially when the due date is in the winter, it is worth stocking up on a few warm, full-zip jumpsuits, a soft warm...

In early March, it was time for the XX Economic Forum, a great event that Robert co-organized. I had to (and really wanted to) attend the most important sessions and the gala dinner. When it came to the sessions, there was no problem - Pia slept a lot and didn't disturb the meetings, but how could we go to the gala dinner? There was no problem if we had help from grandmothers, sisters, or cousins, but when we were completely alone, it was definitely a bigger challenge. We didn't give up. Robert arranged a room from the organizers in the hotel where the conference was held, and I asked a familiar midwife to sit with Pia for a few hours. It worked for three hours. Later, the ruthless, little shark had to latch onto the breast (although to be honest, we also missed our little Grzdyk, and the fatigue accompanying the upbringing of a newborn also took its toll). The stress was great, but all in all, it was worth organizing everything for those three hours of "freedom"....

To zdecydowanie nie był najlepszy pomysł, ale zdecydowaliśmy się w ramach terapii szybkiego powrotu do normalność wpaść na mecz Energii Toruń. Samo wydarzenie sportowe emanowało pozytywną energią - dużo rodzin z dziećmi, w przerwach zarówno małe jak i większe berbecie ganiające za piłką, klimat piknikowy. W czym więc problem. Nasz Pia ewidentnie nie przepada za gwałtownymi skokami poziomu hałasu oraz spontanicznie-panicznymi okrzykami. Oczywiście nie było buntu, płaczu lamentów ale Malutka była ewidentnie niespokojna. Tak więc byliśmy, spróbowaliśmy i zdecydowaliśmy się poczekać z kibicowaniem do kolejnego sezonu. Zapewne dlatego dziewczyny z Energa Toruń tym razem nie zdobyły medalu ale cóż - niestety dla nas było za wcześnie ;). Jeżeli chcecie wybrać się na mecz, koncert, przedstawienie bezwzględnie spróbujcie ale: nie wtapiajcie się z maleństwem w tłum, poszukajcie miejsca z boku, zastanówcie się czy rozsądnym nie byłoby lekkie spóźnienie, nie czekajcie też do końca - zgieł...

Jak wspominałam lądowanie bociana było bardzo trudne. Musiałam zostać osiem koszmarnych dni w szpitalu. Na szczęście Robert był non stop ze mną. Był chyba bardziej przerażony ode mnie ale przynajmniej próbował udawać twardziela. Pod ośmiu dniach dostaliśmy przepustkę do domu oraz instrukcję - ubierać dziecko i wystawić w wózku na 15 minut na balkon przez dwa tygodnie. Potem wyjść na pierwszy spacer na półgodziny a potem .... ble, ble, ble. Nie ma mowy - pierwszego dnia pojechałam sama kupić jakieś wypełnienie lodówki ale już następnego dnia stwierdziliśmy, że dłużej nie wytrzymamy. Pojechaliśmy do lokalnej galerii (raptem 3 kilometry). Wszyscy, którzy usłyszeli o naszym pomyśle uznali, że jesteśmy delikatnie ujmując „nienormalni”. Galeria - ludzie, zarazki, choroby, ZŁO, ZŁO, ZŁO. Zwariujcie w domu, ale nie idzie do sklepu. Ale gdzie można się wybrać jak na dworze minus 20 stopi?  Uznaliśmy, że lepiej aby Pia miała normalnych rodziców i wybraliśmy się do świata okrutn...

Thinking about what will be needed when the little one arrives, the first things that come to mind are a crib and stroller, but what else should a young mother have when the baby arrives...? In search of an answer to this question, I sifted through hundreds of web pages that tempted me with a plethora of wonderful, adorable "necessary" gadgets. Despite my weakness for various aesthetic solutions, I decided to approach this issue rationally and thoughtfully (well, maybe moderately thoughtfully;)) Knowing exactly the situation we are in and not anticipating any changes in the realities - lack of help and interest from relatives - we decided to start preparing for the arrival of the new family member quite early, in August 2012. We went to Gdansk to look at strollers. It was supposed to be a durable, sturdy stroller, and... because Robert had already tested such buggies from a specific company. So, my role was only to choose the appropriate design. The next step was, of course...
