Island number 6 - Gwadelupa (Wyspa nr 6)

After a seven-day escapade in the southern part of the Caribbean, we arrived back in Guadeloupe, which didn't make a particularly good impression on us upon arrival. However, our opinions were subjective back then. Exhausted from the long journey in an old airplane, we wouldn't have been able to appreciate the charms of any place. But as it turned out, our first impressions this time were incredibly accurate. Pointe-a-Pitre, where the ship docked, is the most important city in this French overseas territory. The city is located on Grande Terre, one of the two islands that together form Guadeloupe. Grande Terre is economically more developed than Basse Terre and, importantly, has nicer beaches. Buoyed by our experiences in Martinique and encouraged by the information we gathered from guidebooks, we set out to conquer the city, considering a trip to the beach as well. Island number 5 - Martinique - Pia's 1st. birthday (Pierwsze Urodzinki Pii na Martynice - czyli wyspa nr 5)

We woke up in great spirits in Fort-de-France. After a quick breakfast, we quickly went ashore to do a little reconnaissance and find a place to celebrate this important anniversary. However, we encountered an unpleasant surprise right on the gangway - we saw sailors spraying tourists with a suspicious liquid. It turned out to be mosquito repellent because the island is experiencing a Dengue and Chikungunya epidemic. Unsure whether to give up on exploring this interesting French overseas territory or take the risk, we went to the information center where a lovely lady informed us that the epidemic is prevalent throughout the Caribbean, including nearby St. Lucia. However, only the territories belonging to the European Union have to undertake appropriate informational and preventive measures.
